Baumhaus is a flexible 160qm urban space in the Wedding district of Berlin, Germany that is used by a broad and growing interdisciplinary community dedicated to making the world a more sustainable place. Our activities, space and work embody, inspire, catalyze and upscale societal transformation towards a regenerative sustainable future.
Baumhaus exists as a platform and hub for meaningful engagement to develop, support and implement sustainable solutions. The space is manifested as an organically styled indoor tree house built by over 1000 volunteers since 2012; a direct metaphor for radical collaboration across a wide range of stakeholders.
We support our local community and clients with regular networking events, practical experiences and a wide range of sustainable design services ranging from the design of material goods to the development and implementation of systems. Our teams often develop physical and digital products, interior installations, lighting, furniture, art installations, systems designs and framework, graphics, web design, event concepts and production, video and photo documentation, event moderation, educational workshops, living labs, talks and keynote addresses and facilitate immersive emergent experiences.

We call our approach “Sustainability Thinking”
Sustainability thinking is similar to the design thinking approach which considers many “user-centric” or “stakeholder” perspectives to develop clever solutions. The big difference is that sustainability thinking leads us to solutions that are sustainable by design from the roots of the process.
This approach is based on helping our clients develop clarity and a deep resonant understanding of what sustainability means broadly in the world, as well as in their own personal experience and professional challenges.
We keep things simple and use a holistic approach that offer broad accessibility from different perspectives while providing a common ground understanding to tie things together nicely. The frameworks we use are intuitive, flexible and sensitive to specific context. Our objective is to empower our clients to develop and implement sustainable solutions.
Some of our frequently used methodologies
• PEACES, the six dimensions of sustainability – (personal, ecological, aesthetic, cultural, economic social)
• Radical Collaboration (understanding the roots of the situation together)
• Co-creation (develop opportunities together)
• Radical Modularity (flexible contextual frameworks for assessment across range of work) pcs
• Opening space for synergies (establishing fertile conditions for meaningful engagement)
• Utilising aesthetics to develop resonance and transcultural access (cues from organic natural)
• Regenerative maintenance (design for self sustainability)
• Soup modeling (inclusive consideration for unknown factors)
